Dr. Kearse is an anesthesiologist, neurologist and, clinical neurophysiologist who’s combined career in academic medicine entrepreneurship has focused on developing profitable medical device companies from basic science and clinical research. During his thirteen years on the staff at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Kearse’s principal responsibilities were as Director, Intraoperative Neurophysiology Unit, an innovative specialized clinical service and research program he originated and designed to reduce neurological morbidity associated with surgical procedures. In addition, he concurrently maintained position as neuroanesthesiologist, teaching consultant in neurology for the surgical intensive care units, Assistant Professor of Anesthesia and Assistant Professor of Neurology, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kearse published peer-reviewed studies in a specialty journal of neurology, anesthesiology, neurosurgery, and clinical neurophysiology. He was a founder member of (and he conducted required FDA Phase I and II studies for) Aspect Medical Systems, Inc., (ASPM, NASDAQ), whose technology quantifies degrees of consciousness under sedation and anesthesia. Dr. Kearse also served as President and Chief Executive Officer for Health Performance, Inc., whose products deliver diagnostic testing of vision and hearing through telemedicine. More recently, in Collaboration with former MIT and Harvard Medical School colleagues, he founded the Neural Science Advisory Board, Inc., (www.tnsab.com), a management consulting and technology research service firm for witch he served as a President. In November 2003, Dr. Kearse will return to HMS as a member of the medical staff of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he will lead a research effort, using the neuro-imaging technology of MRI and PET scanning to identify the neuronal mechanisms producing general anesthesia. Dr. Kearse received both B.A.  And Ph.D. degree in English Literature from the Brown University, the M.A. degree in English Literature from New York University, the M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and the M.B.A. from the University Chicago Graduate School of Business.
